Dear AnGenMappers

We are investigating a suitable protocol for extraction of DNA from a large
number of sheep blood samples. The main goal is to use these DNA samples
for SNP genotyping, using a SNP chip platform.

Different service providers require DNA products resulted from their own
recommended protocol or DNA extraction kit. This means, extraction of only
sufficient amounts of DNA at a time for any particular genotyping
application. As multiple extraction procedure is not cost effective, we are
looking for an alternative method.

Ideally we want to extract large quantities of DNA in one go, with the view
of having sufficient DNA for our current SNP genotyping needs and also for
storing for other applications/genotyping platforms in the future. We need
to find an answer for the following question.

Is there any generic protocol or DNA extraction kit, so that the resulting
DNA can be used for genotyping platforms offered by different service
providers?

Any comments and suggestions on related protocols, commercial kits, or
other options are most welcomed and highly appreciated.

Regards Mohammad
