What:
On behalf of the USDA Animal Genome Blueprint 2028-2037 Steering Committee,
please save the date for the in-person Blueprint workshop on July 18, 2026,
in Madison, WI, USA. This writing workshop, with a limited number of
presentations, will update the previous two Blueprints 2008-2017 and 2018-
2027 developed by the animal genomics community. Over the last two decades
the visions outlined in these documents have served to guide intra- and
extramural research programs at USDA and in the broader international
community. This workshop will revisit the progress made and develop
meaningful and tangible goals for the next decade in developing the third-
generation blueprint for the animal genomics community.
When:
Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 8 AM to 5 PM CT
Where:
This in person event will take place at the Monona Terrace Community and
Convention Center, in Madison, WI. This is the same location as the WCGALP
meeting on July 12 to 17, 2026, and the ASAS Annual Meeting on July 19 to
23, 2026.
Cost:
There will be no registration fee. However, attendees will pay for their
own travel and accommodation expenses. Registration for WCGALP and or ASAS
is encouraged but not required to attend this event.

How to contribute if you are not selected to attend the workshop
We understand that many people who want to attend the workshop will not be
able to. Therefore, we plan to post a draft of the new Blueprint online for
comments between September-November of 2026. Once the draft is live, we
will send out another notification on this listserv.
Timeline:
1. March 3, 2026 - Participant interest poll opens for submissions
2. March 31, 2026 1159 PM CT - Interest poll submission deadline
3. Early-April, 2026 - Applicants notified whether attendance is approved or not
4. Mid-April, 2026 - Approved attendees assigned to writing teams
5. Early-mid May, 2026 - Tentative - writing teams meet virtually
6. May 15-July 1, 2026 - Writing teams draft Blueprint sections
7. July 18, 2026 - In-person writing workshop
8. September to November, 2026 - Draft posted online for comments
9. 2027 - Blueprint Manu published
