HTP and Data Storage TF priorities

Big data and digital technologies are revolutionizing all facets of human production systems and can be equally transformative in the agricultural sector, leading to more sustainable, efficient, and profitable farms capable of nimbly adapting to changing customer and societal demands. For livestock production to be able to meet the food needs of a rapidly growing human population under environmental uncertainty it needs to fully harness the power of genomic technologies, data analytics, and artificial intelligence through integration and adoption of these technologies. The High Throughput Phenotyping and Data Storage Task Force aims to provide a public resource of genotypes and high-throughput phenotypes measured through e.g., sensors or imaging and environmental data (e.g., climate, soil, water, GPS coordinates) to enable researchers to develop and test novel methods for data analytics. The TF also aims to develop community norms and annotation practices for storage, annotation and analyses of large heterogeneous datasets. Specific aims include:

    1. Identify and collate information on big data technologies and their uses in animal production
    2. Identify community needs on High Performance Computing and develop resources for big data and artificial intelligence analytics
    3. Create standards for reusability of data from sensors and imaging
    4. Develop blockchain solutions for data integration across supply chains and methods for data sharing protection
    5. Develop data storage methods for genomics and computational backbone for analyses (in collaboration with FAANGPredictions and FarmGTEx)
    6. Establish a resource of genotypes, high-throughput phenotypes and environmental parameters for research
    7. Develop a web server and accompanying portal to host data structures, programs, and resources
